The recently introduced Laxmi Bhandar scheme by the Mamata government is drawing massive response as application forms are in huge demand among women of the Hooghly district who flocked to the Duare Sarkar camps for the same.Just as the second phase of Duare Sarkar camps began in the municipal as well as Panchayat areas for the common people to collect and submit the forms for various beneficiary schemes, the application forms for Laxmi Bhander has outnumbered other schemes such as students credit cards, Krishak Bandhu and Swastha Saathi.

The government of West Bengal has launched West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme in order to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the government is going to provide Rs 500 per month to general category families and Rs 1000 per month to SC/ST families. Nearly 1.6 crore households of West Bengal will benefit from this scheme.Those who wish to be a part of this scheme and want to get benefits under this must register themselves. The registration process is currently active and will remain active till 15th September 2021. Those who have to register for the same can now check their Laxmi Bhandar Status online or by visiting the concerned office.

Through these camps, citizens can apply under various schemes offered by the state government. Over the first two days 18,500 camps were organized in which 29,02,049 people participated. According to the official sources, the most sought-after scheme was the West Bengal Laxmi Bhandar scheme which offers Rs.500 monthly income support to women heads of General families and Rs.1000 monthly income support to women heads of SC or ST families. More than 60% of applications have been received under this scheme through these camps.

Separate Counters To Apply Laxmi Bhandar Scheme

The government has also set up dedicated counters for the application of this scheme at Duare Sarkar camps. Swasthya Sathi scheme and caste certificate are the second and third most sought-after schemes respectively after the Laxmi Bhandar scheme. The Duare Sarkar initiative was launched last January in order to deliver government services at the doorsteps of citizens of West Bengal. The most number of applications were received from South 24 Parganas. A total of 471887 applications were received from South 24 Parganas in the first two days for all the schemes. Laxmi Bhandar Status

The transfer of funds has been started from the 1st of September 2021. Those who have successfully submitted applications for the scheme can check their application status as well as the payment status by visiting the official website of the scheme i.e. socialsecurity.wb.gov.in. The scheme will ensure women empowerment and provide a sense of security to the beneficiaries. A woman who is a resident of the state, not a government employee, and is aged between 25 years – 60 years are eligible for the scheme. Those who have not submitted their applications yet can visit the “Duare Sarkar” camps and apply before the last date. There are more than 2000 Duare Sarker camps in the state through which applications can be submitted.

The main objective of the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme 2021 is to provide basic income support to the female heads of the family. Through this scheme, the female heads of the family will be provided Rs 500 (general category) and Rs 1000 (SC and ST category). Through this financial support, the citizens of West Bengal will be able to finance their day-to-day activities. This scheme will make them self-dependent. The scheme will also boost the rural and urban economy of the state. Now the citizens of West Bengal will not depend on others for their daily needs.

Eligibility Criteria of West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme

The eligibility criteria of the West Bengal Lakshmi Bhandar Scheme are:

  1. Applicant must be a citizen of West Bengal.
  2. Age of the applicant must be between 25-60.
  3. Applicant must not have a parmanent job.
  4. Casual workers are allowed to apply under the scheme.
  5. All families of to SC/ST category can apply under the scheme.
  6. General category families with at least one tax paying member cannot apply under the scheme.
  7. General category family with more than 2 hectares of land cannot apply under the scheme.
  8. Only women head of the family is eligible under this scheme.
